Safe Standing Roadshow to call in on F.C. Business

Wed 22nd Jun 2011 | Football Stadiums & Facilities

The Safe Standing Road Show and the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) are bringing their campaign to introduce safe standing at the UK’s top flight stadiums to Newcastle/Gateshead this afternoon.

The campaign road show, supported by the FSF is to promote the introduction of German-style safe standing areas at football grounds in the Barclays Premier League and the npower Championship and supporting Don Foster's bill in Parliament proposing that safe standing be allowed.

Following a visit this morning in Newcastle, the campaign will set up outside the F.C. Business offices at around 1.30pm to help build awareness of the campaign.

Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, Dan Foster opened up the debate in House of Commons on December 7th 2010 and 145 MP’s signed an Early Day Motion (EDM 101) calling for a reopening of the debate on Safe Standing.

With UEFA regulations stating that European competitions must be played in all-seated stadiums there is reluctance amongst top-flight clubs to re-introduce standing areas.

Jon Darch, founder of the Safe Standing Road Show believes that showcasing the terracing options available in German football stadiums to UK clubs and fans will help to alleviate the concerns that many have.

“We know people would want to see it in action before making their minds up,” Darch said in an interview with F.C. Business.

“So we are working with one of the biggest companies in Europe who have created safe standing terrace seats to showcase the service around the UK,” he added.
