FIFA sponsors voice concerns over corruption allegations

The crisis that is engulfing football’s world governing body FIFA, has prompted two of its main sponsors to express their concerns over the damage being done by the allegations of corruption.

A Coca-Cola spokesperson said: "The current allegations being raised are distressing and bad for the sport. We have every expectation that FIFA will resolve this situation in an expedient and thorough manner."
An Adidas spokesman had earlier commented: "Adidas enjoys a long-term, close and successful partnership with FIFA that we are looking forward to continuing. Adidas will be an official sponsor of FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
“Having said that, the negative tenor of the public debate around FIFA at the moment is neither good for football nor for FIFA and its partners."
Yesterday, FIFA president Sepp Blatter, held a press conference in which he insisted there was no crisis within football saying: “Crisis? What crisis? We are not in a crisis. We are only in some difficulties.”
However, the revealing of a photo showing a cash bribe of $40,000 offered to a Caribbean football official following a presentation by the then FIFA presidential candidate Mohamed bin Hammam has further raised concerns that immediate action must be taken to make the organisation more transparent.
Bin Hammam, who had earlier stepped down from the race for the FIFA presidency to be decided tomorrow (Wednesday 1 June), has been suspended pending an investigation that he offered bribes in exchange for votes in his bid to become the next president of FIFA.
He alone with FIFA vice-president Jack Warner, were both suspended from all football related activity by FIFA’s ethics committee following an investigation into their alleged involvement in the bribery accusations.
