Mansfield Town to splash the cash

Tue 26th Apr 2011 | Money & Finance

Mansfield Town are to splash the cash next season in a bid to return to the Football League from which they were relegated in 2008.   Chairman John Radford has said that he will throw around £2m at the club.   Three of the four men he bought the club from for £1 have returned to the board, each putting in a five figure sum.

However, it all depends on regaining control of their Field Mill ground from landlord Keith Haslam.  The Stags have put in what they think is a fair offer to buy the ground, although a ten-year lease would suffice for admission to the Football League.

As things stand, matters could go to court over Haslam's bid to re-possess the ground and Radford's counter-action over Haslam's company Stags Limited's £1.9m purchase of the stadium with an allegedly illegal £2.36m dividend from the club.
