Chelsea set to raise ticket prices

The cost of watching Chelsea is set to increase after the club announced their ticket prices would rise by as much as 33% for the 2011-2012 Premier League season.
The rise in prices – which will see a £30 ticket increase to £40 and a season ticket in the West Stand cost £900, a £70 increase – has brought a number of complaints from the west London club’s supporters.
Speaking to The Daily Mirror, Michelle Shaw, co-vice chair of the Chelsea Supporters Group, said: “Chelsea seem to think their supporters are recession-proof – we’re not.”
Season ticket-holder Steve Burton added: “I have been going to Stamford Bridge since 1968. I never miss a home match, but this is getting ridiculous.”
Chelsea’s hierarchy maintains the price changes are justified, with a number of ticket prices frozen and the most expensive seat at Stamford Bridge still cheaper than the Emirates.
The club's chief executive Ron Gourlay said: “We believe the prices strike the right balance between the commercial needs of the club and value for money for our fans.”
The ticket price increases follow a similar trend which has seen the cost of an FA Cup Final ticket rise by 22% compared to semi-final tickets. UEFA caused similar outrage when they announced the the cheapest ticket for the Champions League Final at Wembley would cost £150 plus a £26 admin fee.
