Hibernian FC to get new stand
Mon 22nd Feb 2010 | Football Stadiums & Facilities
Hibernian has announced that work will begin today on the construction of the new East Stand at Easter Road.
This Saturday’s home match against St Johnstone will be the last match with the old East Terrace.
The new East Stand will hold 6,400 fans, which increases the capacity of Easter Road Stadium to 20,250 seats. The stand will be completed after the start of next season, with the contractor aiming to make part of the seating deck available for matches before the start of next season.
Hibernian Chairman, Rod Petrie said: “Today marks an exciting milestone in the Club’s history – the start of construction of a new East Stand and the completion of Easter Road Stadium.
"Once the new stand is finished, Hibernian will have one of the finest football stadiums in Scotland and the largest, fully covered UEFA compliant football stadium outside Glasgow."
John Hughes said of the development: "I’m excited about the team playing in what will be a real fortress. Although like many others who grew up with the ‘old’ East Stand I am sorry in a way to see it go, the new stand looks brilliant and will provide more supporters a massively improved view and experience when coming to watch the boys.
"Easter Road will only get louder with the new stand and we can’t wait for it to be completed and opened.”
