Yeovil Town announce stadium upgrade plans
Thu 24th Mar 2011 | Football Stadiums & Facilities
Yeovil Town Football Club have announced plans for a brand new 3,500 seat stand and exciting new retail development at Huish Park, which will enable the future success of the club.
The proposed new developments is hoped to secure the future of the football club as well as creating more than 300 much needed jobs for the town. The proposals are for the area to the north of the stadium to be transformed, from the current substandard and underutilised areas, into a prestigious retail park bringing in much needed revenue for the club.
"Yeovil Town FC is an important economic driver in the South West region and is embarking on this project to ensure that it has the resources and supporters facilities on site to continue to compete in the Football League," said John Fry, Chairman at Yeovil Town Football Club.
He describes the proposed retail development as the lynchpin that will enable future growth and success for the club.
Yeovil Town FC has entered into a partnership with CDS to develop the poor quality land and renovate the area north of the stadium into a more user friendly space that will benefit the town as a whole. As a result of losing the substandard training pitches, the club is currently exploring a number of available options in Yeovil where the team will be able to train if the proposal is agreed by South Somerset District Council.
John added: "We have entered this joint venture to ensure that Yeovil Town FC remains at the heart of our town and county. By developing the area around Huish Park we have the opportunity to bring in much needed investment to the club and the area. Without this investment there is a high chance that we won't meet the Football Leagues future demands for stadium improvements, which will mean that we may not be able to stay in the League."
John continued: "If this proposal is given the go ahead by the Council we can deliver a great new leisure, sports and retail environment on site at Huish Park."
Chris Dawson, Managing Director at CDS said:"At this point in time I can verify that we are proposing retail units on the land to the north of Huish Park, which, if the planning application is successful will deliver more than 300 new jobs for the town as well as some established retail brands.
"We are delighted to be working in partnership with Yeovil Town FC. I must, however, stress that at present any development plans for the site are in the very early stages. However, our proposals are being developed with the supporters, the community and the club's needs very much in mind."
Chairman John Fry concluded: "As more information becomes available, we will ensure we communicate with everyone via our website and in conjunction with the local media. We look forward to hearing feedback from the whole community on these exciting announcements."
